Gilson, Inc. 60 Years of History
Gilson has been a long standing scientific instrument manufacturing company since the 1950s when Gilson Medical Electronics began; through the 1970’s when the pipette division was created, and today as new products are being developed.
The Gilson Museum is being constructed in the foyer of Gilson’s main building. The company history will be preserved and displayed for guests and employees to enjoy.
Gilson employees assisted with many aspects of the project. Atika El Sayed organized, gathered memorabilia and oversaw the whole project. Larry Paskey re-assembled old units to make almost all of them work again. Lyle Rickman assisted with moving around heavy items and hanging portraits in the proper area. The Marketing Department restored old newspaper clippings and designed product and logo timelines to be hung in the museum.

Gilson's Green Thumb
Over the past few months, 27 Gilson employees have been working to make the world a greener place; or at least a little tastier.
Tucked behind Gilson’s main building, the first year of Gilson’s own community garden is flourishing. You will find a wide variety of produce is being grown – from tomatoes and peas to unique items such as kohlrabi and Indian mustard. There is even a plot with rose bushes!
“We’re a family of gardeners; we had an empty field, so why not?” Molly Gilson, Director of Operations-MLH, said. “It is neat to see different purposes for which people are growing things. They’re literally growing their lunches.”
Each participant is responsible for tending to their own assigned space, and many have volunteered to help with the overall garden by participating in various committees.
“It’s great to see everyone working together to make the garden a success, especially the willingness of the Chief Operating Officer to plunge in and work on the assembly issues,” Dean Sperry, Software Engineering Manager said.
Employees have gained a sense of camaraderie; everyone has provided gardening knowledge or physical labor to keep the gardens looking beautiful.

PIPETMAN® P-Then and now.
Gilson, founded in Middleton, WI in the 1950s, is the industry leader in manual and automated liquid handling. Dr. Warren Gilson developed PIPETMAN®’s unique volumeter in 1963 as an improvement to Gilson respirometers. Together with his son, Dr. Robert Gilson, they invented what became known as the PIPETMAN, the original adjustable-volume pipette, in 1972.
Since then PIPETMAN P has come a long way. P is constructed of quality materials, to ensure durability, accuracy and precision. The body of the pipette is made of strong PVDF plastic, which is resistant to harsh chemicals and limits the transfer of heat from your hand to the pipette. PIPETMAN P is the original world standard in accuracy and precision in pipetting. The pipette uses a unique dry seal technology, to ensure air-tightness and long-term performance without the use of grease on the piston. It offers an easy-to-read volumeter with a direct volume reading in decimal digits to prevent mistakes when setting the volume.
The PIPETMAN P has evolved over time; the first models did not have a tip ejector; so tips would have to be removed by hand. Today the P series PIPETMAN pipettes are equipped with a standard tip ejector; P2 and P10 models come standard with a dual position tip ejector for use with long (DL10) or short (D10) tips. The tip holder on the PIPETMAN is now universal and allows for a secure fit of most brands of tips, so there is no need for a dedicated tip brand.
For almost 40 years Gilson has continued in its commitment to provide innovative, quality products to researchers worldwide. The complete line of PIPETMAN pipettes and tips are available at www.pipetman.com.

Are you Motonomic??? - Discover Pipetman M
Gilson is proud to announce the release of Pipetman® M, a new family of pipettes and the latest evolution of the Gilson Pipetman®, the world’s pipetting standard for over 35 years. Lightweight and extremely comfortable, Pipetman M is fully motorized and requires virtually zero pipetting force. Pipetman M looks, performs, and feels like the renowned original Pipetman, and offers advanced ergonomic features and enhanced user-friendly functionality. Designed with both experienced and inexperienced users in mind, Pipetman M is extremely intuitive, requires no learning curve to master, and is offered at a price that is less than most users would expect to pay for a motorized pipette.
Boasting four essential pipetting modes, including reverse, mix, repetitive and pipetting, Pipetman M offers the same high reproducibility, accuracy and precision that users expect from Gilson pipette products. “The development of Pipetman M was done with the help of our customers.” says Dr. Robert Gilson, president of Gilson, Inc. “Our goal was to design a highly ergonomic pipette that greatly reduces the pipetting forces needed to aspirate and dispense, that consistently produces trusted results, and that is as easy to use as Pipetman.” Dr. Gilson went on to add “It was also very important to our customers that they not have to change how they pipette. We’re proud to say that Pipetman M is the result of this collaboration.”

Microman Saves the Lab!
Gilson’s Microman positive-displacement pipette is a superhero to any lab.
Microman’s muscles are made of highly resistant materials such as PVDF, a material that is resistant to aggressive chemicals. The pipette is suited with a color-coded push-button, which allows for easy identification of the Microman you are in need of, as well as corresponding Gilson capillary pistons (CPs). The pipette fits all hand sizes comfortably; the pipette will prevent cramping while pipetting. M10 and M100 Microman have an extra super power, they are fully autoclavable.
Gilson CPs, Microman’s favorite sidekick, have a disposable piston located inside the capillary tip. These CPs guarantee that no harmful samples will contaminate or damage the pipette.
Microman is a life saver when it comes to problem liquids. Microman has the ability to pipette the most viscous or volatile samples without compromising accuracy and precision.

Microman is not afraid of volatile liquids, such as Methanol and Hexane. With no air cushion to expand or contract, the aspiration force in Microman remains constant. This allows you to pipette very volatile liquids without evaporation or leaking.
The pipette leaves a clean and empty tip after every aspiration, even with viscous samples such as glycerol. During dispensing the piston wipes the internal capillary wall, assuring accurate and thorough dispensing of any viscous sample.
Microman is the perfect pipette for corrosive and radioactive liquids. The disposable CPs isolate the pipette from samples and aerosols, thereby preventing sample cross-contamination. The piston seal prevents biohazardous, radioactive and corrosive aerosols from entering the pipette and damaging expensive internal parts.
Let Microman save your lab!

Gilson's New Release: Trackman
Gilson Pipetman announces the release of Trackman, the duo-plate lighted pipetting tracker. Realizing the need for a product that would help eliminate errors when pipetting into microplates, Gilson designed the Trackman to provide a solution for scientists who want greater productivity and fewer mistakes.
Assay costs run into the hundreds of dollars per microplate, which makes Trackman especially relevant to today's researchers. Because Trackman keeps track of its user's progress, it makes it possible to multi-task with confidence. Whether you take a phone call, switch over an autoclave load, or tend to another experiment, Trackman tracks your place for you.
Trackman's innovative LED technology displays a series of lights underneath microplates. These lights appear in a pre-selected order that shows users where to pipette next. The user may program Trackman in a variety of patterns depending on the sequence necessary for the application.
Trackman holds two microplates, can accommodate either 96 or 384 well microplates, and may be used with either single or multichannel pipettes. Requiring only a small footprint on the lab bench, Trackman's long-lasting battery allows for cordless operation for up to eight hours. It also offers a timer function which makes it possible to operate hands-free. Optional accessories include a foot pedal and microtube holder.
